All you need to know about Transfer Deadline Day

Transfer Deadline Day is approaching fast, and with it comes a flurry of activity among Premier League and EFL clubs. The clock is ticking until 23:00 BST on Tuesday, 1st September, when clubs must complete their transfers. For other leagues, the deadlines vary - the Scottish Premiership on Thursday, 3rd September at 17:00 BST, and the Women's Super League on the same day at 23:00 BST.

Premier League clubs must submit a deal sheet before the 23:00 deadline to finalize paperwork and allow for more time to submit the remaining documentation. Without the completed deal sheet, transfers cannot proceed. Clubs often leave their transactions until the last minute, scrambling to submit the required paperwork before the deadline.

Players who remain free agents after the transfer deadline can still be signed by any club. However, these players will not be able to play for their new team immediately, unless the receiving club has space in their registered 25-man squad. They will have to wait until the next registration period.

Each Premier League squad list must not exceed 25 senior players. This list is published after the transfer window closes and cannot contain more than 17 players who are not considered homegrown talent. Under-21 players do not count towards this total but clubs must still manage the numbers closely to avoid being over the limit.

While many players have already made their moves, there are still plenty of signings in flux, including Manchester City midfielder Jack Grealish, who may return to Everton on loan, and Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez, who could reunite with former boss Enzo Maresca at City. Other potential targets include Monaco's Lamine Camara for Chelsea and Julian Alvarez for Arsenal or Barcelona.
