12 assailants killed after Reko Diq convoy comes under attack in Chagai

On Monday, security forces engaged in a battle with 12 armed attackers who launched a terrorist attack on a convoy carrying vehicles from the Reko Diq copper and gold project in Chagai. The assailants intercepted the convoy as it traveled to Quetta, opening heavy fire on the vehicles. According to officials, around three dozen empty Reko Diq project vehicles were under security protection when they were targeted in the Nokacha area of Chagai.

The confrontation lasted over two hours, during which security personnel escorting the convoy returned fire, resulting in injuries to two of their own. Initially, it was reported that 11 terrorists had been killed at the scene, but Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti later clarified that the death toll was 12.

Reko Diq project officials did not provide comment on the matter. In response to the attack, CM Bugti emphasized that intelligence-driven targeted operations against terrorists were ongoing and successful throughout the province. He firmly stated that there would be no negotiations with those who take up arms against the state and that such individuals would be dealt with according to the law.

Bugti also warned that the state would not compromise on its authority or the protection of the lives and property of its citizens, and that security forces and law enforcement agencies were conducting effective and coordinated operations to restore peace and stability in Balochistan. Indiscriminate action against terrorists and their supporters was promised, with every attempt to undermine peace in the province being thwarted.
