12 assailants killed after Reko Diq convoy comes under attack in Chagai

Security forces in Quetta killed 12 armed attackers after a terrorist attack on a convoy transporting vehicles from the Reko Diq copper and gold project, according to officials. The attackers attempted to intercept the convoy as it traveled from the project site to Quetta on Monday. The group opened heavy fire on the convoy, consisting of around three dozen empty vehicles, in the Nokacha area of Chagai.

Security personnel escorting the convoy retaliated, engaging in a heavy exchange of fire that lasted over two hours. During the confrontation, two security personnel were injured. Initially, officials reported that 11 terrorists were killed, but later, Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti clarified that 12 terrorists had been killed in the exchange of fire.

The Reko Diq project officials declined to comment on the incident. CM Bugti emphasized that intelligence-based targeted operations against terrorists were ongoing and successful across the province. He affirmed that there would be no negotiations with those who resort to violence against the state and its citizens, underscoring that such individuals would be dealt with according to the law.

The Balochistan chief minister pledged that the government would maintain its authority and safeguard the lives and property of the people, vowing to conduct effective and coordinated operations to ensure peace and stability in Balochistan.
