YIPs Ghana honours 5 outstanding students at 2026 Tertiary Achievers Awards

The Association of Young Insurance Professionals (YIPs Ghana) celebrated five outstanding tertiary students at the 2026 Tertiary Achievers Awards, held at the Labadi Beach Hotel in Accra. This event, held during the CIIG Insurance Excellence Awards, is part of YIPs Ghana’s efforts to bridge the gap between academia and industry. The initiative, now in its third year, aims to identify and nurture talented students with an interest in insurance and risk management.

The 2026 competition saw 40 entries from across the country, reflecting a growing interest in the insurance profession among young people. Participants were tasked with developing practical solutions to address the increasing impact of flooding and flood-related losses in Ghana. Lawrence Daniels, Country Director of YIPs Ghana, emphasized the program’s growth and the high caliber of this year’s participants.

The essay competition was designed to encourage innovative thinking and practical solutions to industry challenges, specifically focusing on flood risk management.

After a rigorous evaluation by a panel of judges, Kentera Abongo from Accra College of Education was named the winner, followed by Emmanuel Sowah from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Mustfirah Mohammed from the University of Health and Allied Sciences, Francis Kusi from KNUST, and Hermingway Hodoh from Valley View University. These students received awards and recognition, gaining exposure to insurance concepts and exploring potential careers in the field.

The Tertiary Achievers Awards have become a significant platform for discovering talent and developing professionals within Ghana’s insurance industry. By engaging students in addressing real-world challenges, the program fosters innovation and inspires the next generation of insurance leaders, strengthening the connection between academia and the insurance profession.
