YIPs Ghana honours 5 outstanding students at 2026 Tertiary Achievers Awards

The Association of Young Insurance Professionals (YIPs) Ghana, under the Chartered Insurance Institute of Ghana (CIIG), celebrated five outstanding tertiary students at the 2026 Tertiary Achievers Awards during the CIIG Insurance Excellence Awards in Accra. The awards program, now in its third year, aims to identify, nurture, and celebrate talented students with an interest in insurance and risk management.

This year’s competition received 40 entries from across the country, reflecting the rising interest among young people in the insurance profession.

The event took place at the Labadi Beach Hotel in Accra, where participants were tasked with developing practical and innovative solutions to help the insurance industry address the growing impact of flooding in Ghana. Lawrence Daniels, Country Director of YIPs Ghana, emphasized the program's growth and the high quality of this year’s submissions.

The essay competition aimed to encourage students to think beyond the classroom and offer innovative solutions to pressing issues in the insurance sector, particularly in flood risk management.

Following a thorough evaluation process by a panel of judges, the top five finalists were announced. Kentera Abongo of Accra College of Education won first place, followed by Emmanuel Sowah from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in second place. Mustfirah Mohammed from the University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS) came in third, Francis Kusi from KNUST in fourth place, and Hermingway Hodoh from Valley View University secured the fifth position.

The winners were presented with awards and accolades by an audience of insurance executives, regulators, practitioners, academics, and key stakeholders. The Tertiary Achievers Awards serve as a bridge between academia and industry, exposing students to the insurance field and creating pathways for future professional development.

Beyond recognizing academic excellence, the program aims to cultivate the next generation of insurance professionals by inspiring students to explore careers in underwriting, claims management, risk management, actuarial science, brokerage, and insurance leadership.
