Vote for Jackson area girls high school athlete of the week from Aug. 24-29

The 2026-27 school year is set to commence with the first Athletes of the Week nominated by Pocono Eye Associates, following the opening sports weekend. The voting period for these exceptional athletes will remain open until noon on Thursday.

The nominees hail from various sports teams, with performances that stand out. Stroudsburg's football team showcased offensive prowess in their Week 1 win against George Washington. Mia Wilson contributed to that victory with two goals in an 8-0 win over Wilson. Annabel Mehnert from Pocono Mountain West displayed remarkable skills in volleyball, registering 12 digs, 4 aces, and 8 kills in a 3-0 win over Elk Lake.

Kira Hnat from Pleasant Valley also made a significant impact in volleyball with 19 assists, 4 digs, and a kill in the same match. Vasoula Skarlis from Stroudsburg had an impressive week in tennis, going undefeated in singles matches with a 4-0 record against formidable opponents.

Christian Stiehler from Pocono Mountain West football displayed his athleticism by rushing for 241 yards and 3 touchdowns in a 27-0 win over Scranton. Ayden Walker from East Stroudsburg South and Jackson Mitchell from Stroudsburg also made impressive plays, contributing to their respective teams' victories. Chris Ward from Pleasant Valley and Jayden Guarino from East Stroudsburg South put on impressive performances as well, contributing 97 yards and 2 rushing touchdowns, 82 passing yards and a touchdown, and a punt return and receiving touchdown, respectively.

These athletes represent the diversity of talent in the region and have proven their mettle in their respective sports. Now it's up to the voters to choose the Athlete of the Week for the 2026-27 school year.
