UAE intercepts incoming Iranian drone, and other news from the Middle East

An Iranian drone was intercepted early Monday over United Arab Emirates territorial waters, according to the Defense Ministry. This incident came after an exchange of fire between Iran and the United States over the weekend, marking the first significant military action in the conflict in over a month.

The United States launched an airstrike on Iranian rocket launchers on an island on Sunday, blaming them for preparing to launch mines into the Strait of Hormuz. In response, Iran fired missiles at U.S. sites in Jordan, all of which were intercepted. President Masoud Pezeshkian of Iran stated that his nation was not looking for war but would respond decisively to aggressors.

The United Arab Emirates described the drone attack as a "dangerous escalation" from Iran during the brief lull in fighting. Efforts by the U.S. have included increasing economic pressure on Iran with the aim of securing concessions, including reopening the crucial Strait of Hormuz for shipping.

In other Middle East news, an Israeli airstrike killed at least two Palestinians in Gaza City on Monday, according to hospital officials. The strike targeted the entrance of a residential building near the city's municipal park. Two additional Palestinians were critically injured. The Israeli military has not yet commented on the incident.
