Transfer: ‘We don’t have that’ – Rio Ferdinand warns Man United against selling most consistent player

Rio Ferdinand, a former Manchester United star, has cautioned the club against selling their most reliable player, Luke Shaw, ahead of the summer transfer window. Following a poor 2-0 defeat to Hull City in their opening Premier League match, Shaw, along with the rest of Michael Carrick’s team, faced heavy criticism. Shaw's performance in the loss to Ipswich also drew scrutiny, as he was easily outdone by Abdul Fatawu, resulting in Leif Davis scoring in the 29th minute.

Despite the setback, Bruno Fernandes' outstanding hat-trick led to a 5-2 comeback win for United at Old Trafford, marking their first victory of the season. In response to the criticism, Ferdinand passionately defended Shaw on his YouTube channel, Ferdinand Presents. He emphasized that Shaw had been one of United’s most consistent performers over the past year and advised the club to seek a left-back who can gradually adapt to the team rather than someone who would replace Shaw, who has been the club’s longest-serving player.

Ferdinand stated, "Luke Shaw, over the last year, has been one of our most consistent performers, and you’re sitting there saying, ‘He should be there,’ or, ‘He should be somewhere else.’ No!" He continued, "Go and get a left-back that we want to actually bed in over time to be a replacement for someone like Luke Shaw. You think you’re going to go in the market and find someone? It’s like £60m we’d have to pay. We ain’t got that!"
