민주 “장동혁, 제주 등록 인구로 범죄 통계 왜곡”…‘정치 선동’ 비판

The Democratic Party criticized this as "political campaigning based on insufficient evidence and statistical distortion." The Democratic Party's spokesperson, 신현영, said, "Please refrain from stirring up anxiety among 제주 residents with unwarranted speculation and statistical distortion."

Earlier, on the 28th, 장 대표 had stated that 제주 had the highest number of crimes per 100,000 inhabitants. The Democratic Party's 대변인 pointed out that the statistics were based on the main population of 66,000 residents, excluding non-resident foreigners and illegal immigrants. The actual crime rate per 100,000 is closer to the national average when including 생활인구 (people living in 제주 without being registered as residents).

The 대변인 emphasized that this approach is a statistical fallacy, and criticizing 제주 as the most dangerous area based solely on resident population figures is incorrect. The 대변인 also criticized 장 대표's remarks about the 중국인 불법체류자 issue, stating that it was an "incorrectly framed statement that could incite national anxiety and hostility toward foreigners."
