Song Sung-mun marks MLB return with RBI for Padres

San Diego Padres infielder Song Sung-mun made an impressive return to Major League Baseball on Sunday, contributing an RBI to the team's 5-4 defeat against the Tampa Bay Rays at Tropicana Field in Florida. Sung-mun, who had been recently called up from Triple-A El Paso, made his debut at third base and batted ninth. Despite struggling at the plate with a 0-for-2 outing, he demonstrated his speed with a steal in the ninth inning, marking his 13th steal of the season.

The Padres utilized the opportunity to bring back Song and also reinstate outfielder Samad Taylor from the injured list. In doing so, they had to place two other position players, Luis Rengifo and Gavin Sheets, on the injured list. During his brief appearance, Song went 0-for-2, including a walk in the ninth inning. He lined out to center field in the third inning and grounded out to shortstop Taylor Walls in the fifth.

In the seventh, he hit a sacrifice fly to right field, helping to score teammate Taylor from third base and give the Padres a two-run lead.

Song's double steal, in which he was assisted by first baseman Xander Bogaerts, marked a successful outing for the Puerto Rican native. However, the Padres fell short in the game, as they were unable to overcome the Tampa Bay Rays' late rally and ended up surrendering two runs in the ninth inning, ultimately sending the contest to extra innings.
