Song Sung-mun marks MLB return with RBI for Padres

San Diego Padres infielder Song Sung-mun made a strong return to Major League Baseball on Sunday by driving in a run. During the 5-4 defeat against the Tampa Bay Rays at Tropicana Field in Florida, the Korean player went 0-for-2 while contributing an RBI, a walk and a steal. Called up from Triple-A El Paso just before game time, Song made his debut at third base and batted ninth. He had started the season in the minors before being reassigned last week.

Reinstating outfielder Samad Taylor from the injured list, the Padres also placed two other players, Luis Rengifo and Gavin Sheets, on the injury list. Song's performance began in the third inning, where he lined out to center. In the fifth inning, he grounded out to shortstop Taylor Walls. However, the turning point came in the seventh, when Song hit a sacrifice fly to right field, scoring teammate Taylor from third base and extending the Padres' lead to two runs.

In the ninth inning, Song was intentionally walked, but he continued his impact on the game by pulling off a double steal with Xander Bogaerts. This successful maneuver marked his 13th steal of the season, showcasing his versatility on the field. Despite the Padres being down by two runs in the bottom of the ninth, their efforts ultimately resulted in a game that went into extra innings.
