Police arrest 19 suspected drug dealers, seize illicit drugs in Kano

In Kano State, Nigeria, police have apprehended 19 individuals suspected of drug dealing, as well as seized a substantial amount of illicit substances in operations carried out across the state in August 2026. The Kano State Police Command's Commissioner, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, revealed these details during a press briefing at the Police Headquarters in Kano.

Intelligence-led operations conducted by different units across the state led to the arrests and recoveries, with Bakori emphasizing the command's commitment to intensifying efforts against criminal activities, particularly the distribution of illicit drugs.

The police confiscated 17,684 sachets of suspected illicit drugs and 614 wraps of suspected Indian hemp, as well as quantities of suspected Tramadol, Diazepam, Pregabalin, Exol tablets, and methamphetamine. A notable seizure occurred on August 25 when a vehicle intercepted on Tudun Yola contained approximately 13,837 sachets of suspected Tramadol. This led to the recovery of additional drugs during further investigations.

On August 14, police assigned to Gezawa Division apprehended seven suspects in Gunduwawa Village and seized 614 wraps of suspected Cannabis sativa. The Anti-Kidnapping Squad also made arrests for drug dealing in Rijiyar Lemo, recovering Diazepam, Pregabalin, and Exol tablets. Police from Panshekara Division arrested 11 suspects on August 11, seizing more Diazepam, Pregabalin, Exol tablets, and Indian hemp.

Bakori urged residents to assist the police by providing credible information to aid in preventing crime and arresting criminals. He highlighted a reduction in crime across Kano Metropolis due to sustained patrols, intelligence gathering, community engagement, and targeted operations. Overall, the police command reported the arrest of 244 suspects for various offenses between August 1 and 31, including drug dealing, kidnapping, robbery, vehicle theft, and gang activity.
