Norsk ambassadør reddet av Elon Musks satellittsverm

Norsk ambassadør Geir Magnussen was rescued by Elon Musk's Starlink satellite internet service after requesting installation in his Canberra residence. Magnussen submitted a request to Statsbygg, the Norwegian government agency responsible for buildings and infrastructure, seeking the installation of Starlink, Elon Musk's satellite-based internet service.

He explained that modern internet solutions posed significant challenges and that the embassy's residence needed a reliable internet connection in case of an evacuation. Starlink was the best alternative they had found.

The request was approved by Statsbygg, and a Starlink antenna was installed on the roof of Magnussen's residence. Soon, the ambassador's home in Canberra will be equipped with a Starlink antenna to provide internet coverage, even in remote areas. Previously, the embassy relied on copper cables connected to a local hub, which was expensive and impractical given the planned fiber-optic network rollout in the area.

Magnussen had previously highlighted the need for a more reliable internet connection in the embassy's residence, given the challenges of modern internet solutions. He emphasized that Starlink was the best alternative they had found. The installation of Starlink in the embassy's residence is part of SpaceX's ongoing efforts to revolutionize satellite internet with over 12,000 Starlink satellites launched using reusable Falcon rockets.

Starlink's services have grown significantly, with 12 million subscribers in Q2, driven by both the private sector and public customers.
