'No politics today': Gobind declines comment on Kian Ming's DAP exit

PUTRAJAYA: Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo did not offer any remarks on former DAP MP Dr Ong Kian Ming's decision to leave the party, asserting that it was an inappropriate day for politics. Deo claimed he had not perused Ong's statement and intended to comment at a later date. "No, not today. No politics today. I haven't read anything he said, so let's leave it for another time," he remarked during the National Day celebrations.

Prior to this, Ong had announced his resignation from the DAP, effective immediately. He affirmed his continued commitment to serving the nation alongside individuals who aligned with his views and his intention to aid former Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin in his 16th General Election campaign. Ong also indicated that he had no plans to join another political party or contest in the 2016 General Election.

Syahredzan Johan, the DAP vice-chairman, affirmed Ong's right to leave the party and requested its respect. He expressed his personal appreciation for the assistance Ong had provided him during the last general election, emphasizing that Ong had also served the party. However, he reiterated that Ong's decision to leave was a personal choice, and the DAP would respect that decision.

Regarding Ong's intent to assist Khairy in the 2016 election, Syahredzan confirmed it was Ong's prerogative. "Once you are no longer in the party, of course you are free to help anyone," he stated.
