Earlier this month, Messi hinted at his future plans after the loss of his father, Jorge, who had passed away from a long illness. In July, Messi penned his retirement message, two days after Argentina's defeat to Spain in the World Cup final. Post his father's demise, Messi's resolve to retire became even more definitive.

Messi, who currently plays for Inter Miami, added, "After what happened with my dad, I'm even more convinced than before." His retirement marks the end of an era for Argentinian football, and it remains to be seen how this will impact the national team.
