Manhunt underway after woman killed, several injured at Swiss rave shooting

Swiss authorities are intensifying their search for those responsible after a shooting at a rave party in Aarau claimed the life of a 22-year-old woman and left five others injured. The incident occurred early Saturday morning during a techno festival at a horse racing track that was expected to host around 3,500 attendees. Police have widened their investigation across the country, with armed units and armored vehicles patrolling the area.

The cartridges discovered at the scene suggest that two types of ammunition were used, possibly from a handgun and a larger firearm. Police have not yet established the number of assailants or their motives, considering three potential scenarios: terrorism, a mass shooting, or another criminal act.

A witness described the initial confusion, mistaking the gunfire for fireworks due to the cessation of music. Some individuals sought refuge behind the DJ booth, while others hid in various locations. One woman who sought cover behind a refrigerator was struck by a bullet and succumbed to her injuries despite rescue efforts. The event's organizer had anticipated approximately 3,500 participants.

Swiss President Guy Parmelin expressed condolences to the victim's family, emphasizing his deepest sympathies to all those affected by this tragic occurrence.
