Kenya, South Africa seek to expand trade ties

Kenya and South Africa are working to enhance their trade and investment relationships, with a goal of generating jobs and opportunities for businesses and the youth. Cabinet Secretary and Foreign Affairs Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi met with South Africa's Minister of International Relations and Cooperation Ronald Lamola during the AU Extraordinary Summit in Luanda.

The ministers talked about enhancing market access, easing investment, and expanding commerce between the two nations. Mudavadi emphasized that stronger trade between African countries should lead to job creation, business growth, and new possibilities for citizens. "Trade between African nations should do more than move goods across borders, it should create jobs, grow businesses and open new opportunities for our people," he stated.

Mudavadi also extended an invitation to South Africa to join Kenya in hosting the AU Extraordinary Summit on Local Manufacturing of Pharmaceutical and Non-Pharmaceutical Commodities in Nairobi in December. He highlighted the strong historical ties between Kenya and South Africa, rooted in solidarity and Pan-Africanism, and stressed the need to translate this longstanding partnership into increased trade, investment, and shared prosperity.
