Government to develop 150-acre air cargo hub at Tamale Airport – Goosie Tanoh

The government intends to construct a 150-acre air cargo hub at Tamale International Airport, aimed at streamlining the export of high-value agricultural products from northern Ghana to international markets. Goosie Tanoh, the National Coordinator for the 24-Hour Economy Secretariat, revealed this announcement alongside the inauguration of an export garment factory in Savelugu.

The air cargo hub, a component of the government's broader economic transformation strategy, will serve as a dedicated logistics platform for moving goods produced in the northern region directly to global markets. This initiative aligns with the 24-Hour Economy Secretariat's efforts to integrate agriculture, manufacturing, energy, and logistics in northern Ghana.

The government is also developing a 120,000-hectare agriculture corridor along the White Volta, where commercial-scale production of various crops will take place, and plans for a $270-million integrated poultry industry to bolster the agricultural and agro-processing value chains. Additionally, efforts are being made to ensure affordable and reliable energy for industrial growth in the region, including a proposed 1.5-gigawatt solar power plant.

All these initiatives are interconnected components of a unified production system, aiming to create a single economic ecosystem that will drive productivity, job creation, and inclusive economic growth across Ghana.
