Egypt ranks among world’s leading fertilizer producers, exporters

Minister of Industry Khaled Hashem has declared Egypt to be a prominent global producer and exporter of fertilizers, citing a robust industrial foundation, dependable energy supplies, and plentiful natural resources, particularly phosphate, as key contributors to this success. He highlighted the industry's growth as a result of substantial government backing in recent times, as well as the impact of global crises and regional political tensions on production in several nations.

Hashem credited Egypt's fertilizer industry's robustness to secure energy sources, enabling plants to maintain consistent output, satisfy domestic requirements, and boost exports. He also noted the upward trend in European demand for Egyptian fertilizers due to the closure of multiple European fertilizer plants during global energy crises.

The Minister emphasized how the stability of Egyptian production has bolstered the competitiveness of locally produced fertilizers and reinforced Egypt's standing in global markets. Additionally, Hashem classified sugar as a strategic resource due to its direct influence on food security and market stability. He stated that the ministry is striving to enhance domestic sugar production and enhance manufacturing efficiency to achieve self-sufficiency in sugar while broadening exports.

During a visit to Suez Governorate, where he toured a fertilizer plant and a sugar refinery in the Suez Canal Economic Zone alongside Suez Governor Hany Rashad, Hashem made these statements.
