Nigeria's Junior Female Yellow Greens achieved a resounding victory in their opening match of the 2027 ICC U-19 Women's T20 World Cup Africa Qualifier Division 1, defeating Uganda U-19 Women by four wickets, according to PUNCH Sports Extra. The game took place in Tanzania, after Uganda won the toss and chose to bat first. Nigeria's robust bowling attack restricted the Ugandan team to just 59 runs for seven in their 20 overs.

Shadiah Gilingish Nabulime was Uganda's top-scorer with 22 runs off 34 balls, while Jimia Abdallah Mohamed added 13 runs off 25 deliveries. Nigeria's bowlers, led by Chisom Okpe and Peace Usen, delivered an exceptional performance, with Okpe taking two wickets for just four runs and Usen conceding 12 runs in two wickets. With 60 runs needed to win, Nigeria's pursuit appeared controlled until Tino Sarah's remarkable spell, where she took five wickets for 13 runs in just four overs, including two maiden overs.

Despite the pressure, the Junior Female Yellow Greens exhibited composure and determination, with Omosigho Eguakun providing a solid foundation with a patient 24 off 29 balls, and captain Christabel Chukwuonye contributing importantly with 13 runs off 10 deliveries, including three boundaries. Nigeria's World Cup campaign continues as they look to build on this opening result and secure a spot in the semi-finals, where they will face one of the teams from Group B, including Kenya, Namibia, Rwanda and Zimbabwe. A top-two finish will see them through to the semi-finals.
