CAN remains umbrella body for Christians – NOCRELA

The Northern Christian Religious Assembly (NOCRELA) has affirmed that the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) remains the umbrella body for Christians across Nigeria. NOCRELA's National President, Archbishop John Praise Daniel, made this statement during the inauguration and investiture of the Niger State chapter of the Assembly.

Speaking at the event, Daniel emphasized that the emergence of various Christian groups is acceptable as long as they support CAN's objectives. He clarified that NOCRELA is not a rival organization to CAN, but rather a complementary movement. According to Daniel, "NOCRELA is not another organization in rivalry with CAN; rather, it is a movement that complements the workings of CAN as our umbrella body."

NOCRELA's commitment to Christian faith and society was further highlighted by the Niger State CAN Chairman, Most Rev. Bulus Yohanna. Yohanna, represented by his deputy Rev. Joshua Marcus, called for unity among Christian groups, urging them to speak with one voice when addressing issues affecting their faith. He stressed the importance of individuals and organizations willing to advocate for Christians and support their leaders.

The Chairman of the inauguration committee, Evangelist Charles Amatu, noted that the establishment of the Niger State chapter of NOCRELA was long overdue. He also mentioned that other northern states had already inaugurated their leaders. Additionally, the state Chairman of NOCRELA, Rev. Samuel Shaba, encouraged the newly inaugurated women's wing of CAN to collaborate closely with the state executive.
