EFCC records 10,872 convictions, recovers N1.23tn under Olukoyede

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) recorded 10,872 convictions and recovered over N1.23 trillion during a major anti-corruption campaign led by Executive Chairman Ola Olukoyede, spanning 34 months from October 2023 to July 2026. In his three-year stewardship report, Olukoyede highlighted the commission's aggressive approach to investigations, prosecutions, asset recovery, and institutional reforms.

The EFCC achieved a conviction-to-filing ratio of 75.1 percent, including 1,370 convictions from 1,889 cases filed in the first half of 2026. Olukoyede cautioned that Nigeria's fight against economic and financial crimes remains ongoing due to sophisticated cybercrime, financial fraud, virtual assets, and illicit financial flows.

The commission also recovered N1.233 trillion, with N397.26 billion going directly to the Federal Government and N836.34 billion to various stakeholders. Asset recovery efforts resulted in N661.32 billion and $492.37 million being returned to beneficiaries. Olukoyede emphasized the importance of converting intelligence into practical benefits for Nigerians, with recovered funds supporting public programs and initiatives.
