Bangi MP pays tribute to predecessor Ong after DAP exit

Pete Harman reported that Petaling Jaya MP Syahredzan Johan has honored his former predecessor, Ong Kian Ming, following the latter's decision to depart from the DAP. A DAP vice-chairman, Syahredzan clarified that Ong significantly aided his 2022 general election (GE15) campaign and his election as the Bangi MP, as per Berita Harian.

Syahredzan expressed his deep gratitude to Ong, stating that he appreciates his help even before Syahredzan's election. Syahredzan emphasized that they respect Ong's personal choice to leave the party. Ong announced his resignation from the DAP today after serving the party for 14 years. However, he has no plans to join another party or contest in the next general election. Instead, Ong will assist former Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin in his GE16 campaign.

Ong served as Serdang MP from 2013 to 2018 and Bangi MP from 2018 to 2022. He also held the position of deputy international trade and industry minister from 2018 to 2020. Syahredzan acknowledged that it was Ong's prerogative to aid Khairy's campaign, comparing it to the support Syahredzan received from Ong during GE15.

DAP chairman Gobind Singh Deo refrained from commenting on Ong's resignation, only stating that he had not yet read the former Bangi MP's statement. When asked about the matter by reporters, Deo urged for a non-political environment that day.
