Around 6,000 properties without Eircodes around country

Around 6,000 properties across Ireland lack Eircode, the national postcode system, leading to potential delays in accessing utilities and grants. This issue stems from industrial action by Fórsa, the trade union representing Tailte Éireann staff. The backlog is due to a work-to-rule action taken by Fórsa members, which prevented employee recruitment and left over 30 positions unfilled.

The work-to-rule lasted several days before both parties agreed to discuss the matter at the Workplace Relations Commission. Fórsa sought to address pay and grading issues arising from the assimilation process into a new state body. The union has engaged extensively with management since 2023, attempting to resolve pay disparities through independent third-party processes.

However, management blocked proposals put forward by Fórsa. Tailte Éireann welcomes the agreement among parties to enter into facilitation under the Civil Service Conciliation and Arbitration Scheme to resolve the issue. The delay in assigning Eircodes was highlighted following a parliamentary question from Fianna Fáil TD Aindrias Moynihan, who emphasized the importance of Eircodes for homeowners, property renovators, and those applying for grants.
