2.07 crore out of Maharashtra’s voter rolls left out in SIR draft

During the publication of Maharashtra's draft electoral rolls under the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process, 2.07 crore out of the 9.78 crore electors could not be included, according to the Election Commission. The draft showed that 78.86% of the pre-SIR electors were included, while 21.14% were excluded. The reasons for exclusion varied, including cases where Enumeration Forms could not be collected or electors were classified as Absent/Not Found, Permanently Shifted, Dead, Already Enrolled Elsewhere/Duplicate, or Others.

Major urban districts like Pune, Thane, and Mumbai Suburban accounted for the highest number of excluded electors. The Election Commission clarified that the 2.07 crore figure did not represent the final number of voters who would be deleted from the electoral rolls, as the claims and objections period from August 31 to September 30 would allow eligible electors to apply for inclusion. The final electoral rolls are expected to be published on November 4.
