2027: Opposition summit sets agenda to unseat Tinubu

Opposition political parties will gather in Abuja on Monday for a summit aimed at forming a unified front and devising a strategy to challenge President Bola Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress in the upcoming 2027 presidential election. The event, organized by the political pressure group G-100, involves two opposition parties - the Social Democratic Party and the Peoples Redemption Party - while the Peoples Democratic Party has declined to attend.

G-100 leader Salihu Lukman urged opposition factions to set aside their differences and cooperate for the sake of Nigeria's democracy, emphasizing that a fragmented opposition could inadvertently aid the incumbent. The group acknowledged the unique histories and ambitions of participating parties, but stressed that their cooperation should not require sacrificing these elements.

Past elections have shown that a divided opposition often benefits incumbents, as they can retain power despite significant public discontent. The G-100 cautioned against allowing disagreements to prevent Nigerians from having a credible alternative.
