UP cadre IAS officer Divya Mittal resigns from service

Deoria district magistrate Divya Mittal, a 2013-batch IAS officer, has resigned from her 13-year tenure in the Indian Administrative Service. In a post on X, she expressed her decision without providing a reason. Mittal, who grew up in modest circumstances, had initially worked in London after studying at IIT Delhi and IIM Bengaluru.

However, she felt incomplete until she returned to India and became an IAS officer. During her service, she worked with needy families, persons with disabilities, and farmers, realizing that there was a human behind every government file. Notable for bringing tap water to a remote hill village for the first time in 75 years, Mittal's tenure as Mirzapur district magistrate saw her implementing government schemes at the grassroots level. She is expected to officially resign and face subsequent disciplinary action.
