One dead, five wounded in Swiss rave shooting: Police

One individual was killed and five others sustained injuries, some serious, during a shooting at a rave party in northern Switzerland on Sunday (Aug 30). The perpetrator's identity remains unknown, and authorities are actively seeking them. Swiss police announced a large-scale search effort following the incident in Aarau, located north of Zurich.

The shooting occurred before 3am on the outskirts of the Aarauer Rave, where an estimated 3,500 attendees gathered from 3pm on Saturday to 2am on Sunday. The event took place at a racecourse. Police spokeswoman Vanessa Rumpold confirmed the shooting happened amidst a crowd, and several witnesses reported hearing gunfire around 2.30am.

Initially, many partygoers mistook the shots for fireworks. A video posted by a local resident showed deserted streets and gunshots in the background. Media reports indicate an army helicopter was deployed in Aargau, accompanied by numerous police officers, rescue workers, and medical teams.
