IAS officer who left finance job in London for civil services resigns after 13 years, recalls ‘unforgettable journey’

In a recent announcement on social media, a 2013-batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer, Divya Mittal, declared her resignation from the service. Mittal expressed that her 13-year career as an IAS officer had been "unforgettable." Born in a humble environment, Mittal aspired for a prosperous life. After completing her education at IIT Delhi and IIM Bangalore, she had an opportunity to work in London.

However, she felt an emptiness despite her success, driven by her desire to contribute to her homeland. Mittal felt a debt to her country and decided to return, ultimately becoming an IAS officer. During her tenure, she worked in various regions, including Deoria, Mirzapur, and Vindhyavasini, where she witnessed the struggles and triumphs of the people.

These experiences taught her valuable lessons about justice, dignity, and the power of the people's trust. Mittal emphasized that her true fulfillment came from seeing the dreams for her people come to fruition, rather than her own personal ambitions. She highlighted the joy and respect she received from the people she served, describing their unwavering support even during challenging times.

One memorable moment was an elderly woman from Lahuriya Dah hills, whose eyes brimmed with gratitude as she blessed Mittal after witnessing water reaching her village for the first time. Mittal expressed deep gratitude, acknowledging that her position may have been lost, but the blessings and lessons from her journey would forever remain etched in her heart.
