Shettima demands stronger accountability for $500 million Nigeria agriculture programme, other interventions

Vice President Kashim Shettima has urged for improved accountability in various food-system initiatives, including the $500 million Nigeria Sustainable Agricultural Value-Chains for Growth programme (AGROW). The call for stronger visibility and accountability came during a meeting of the Presidential Food Systems Coordinating Unit (PFSCU), chaired by Shettima.

The meeting aimed to strengthen coordination around priority areas requiring action and address Nigeria’s food system stability and resilience. Shettima stressed that resources must translate into tangible outcomes for farmers, markets, and households under President Bola Tinubu's leadership. The PFSCU highlighted the importance of coordinating action across various stakeholders, including the Federal and State Governments, the private sector, and relevant institutions, to achieve measurable results.

The AGROW loan, approved by the World Bank in April 2026, aims to boost agricultural productivity, strengthen value chains, and improve food security in Nigeria. The funding targets long-standing structural challenges in the agriculture sector, such as low productivity, climate shocks, and weak market access.
