Russian Drone Strikes on Kyiv Spark Fires, Injure 3

On Saturday evening, Aug. 29, Russian drone strikes hit Kyiv, resulting in fires across four districts and injuring three individuals, according to the State Emergency Service. In the Obolon district, a drone struck a 12-story residential building, setting ablaze floors two to five before firefighters managed to extinguish the flames.

The Podil district also experienced a drone attack, with firefighters battling a blaze at a non-residential structure. An administrative building in the Holosiivskyi district was hit, but the fire was successfully contained. Meanwhile, crews in the Desna district worked to quell a fire that had engulfed two hectares of open grass.

This marked the third consecutive day of intense Russian drone attacks on Kyiv and its surrounding areas. Earlier on Saturday, a Russian drone crashed into a residential area in the Obolon district, killing a two-year-old girl and injuring eight others. The total number of people injured in the capital on Saturday reached eight.

The strikes came after damage to a nine-story apartment building and several private homes in the Sviatoshyn district on Aug. 28, where two people were injured. The continuous attacks coincide with ongoing recovery efforts following a massive ammunition warehouse explosion in the Kyiv region's Bucha district, where at least 37 people were killed and 42 injured, including four children.

Kyiv Regional Governor Tymur Tkachenko confirmed that the death toll from the secondary explosions rose to 37, with 42 others injured, and that rescue operations and debris removal were ongoing. Among the victims was Taras Didych, head of the Dmytrivka community, who was among the first responders at the scene. The explosions were triggered when a Russian drone struck an ammunition warehouse at 8:10 p.m. local time on Friday.
