Traffic on expressways surges nearly 60 percent during National Day holiday

During the opening days of the National Day holiday, traffic volumes on 15 expressways in Vietnam surged nearly 60 percent, with over 320,000 vehicle trips recorded on August 29, according to the Vietnam Road Administration. Certain expressways experienced especially significant increases. The Chi Thanh-Van Phong and Vinh Hao-Phan Thiet expressways saw traffic volumes rise by nearly 86 percent, while the Bung-Van Ninh-Cam Lo route witnessed a more than 70 percent jump in traffic.

Similarly, the Ham Nghi-Vung Ang-Bung and Phan Thiet-Dau Giay expressways recorded over a 67 percent increase in traffic. All toll plazas on the operational sections of Vietnam's expressways were fully operational during this period. Notably, the automated toll collection systems have remained stable and efficient, enabling vehicles to pass through without unnecessary delays.

Additionally, Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) have been functioning continuously, assisting traffic police in swiftly managing incidents and facilitating smooth travel during peak periods.

The Vietnam Road Administration anticipates high traffic volumes to persist until the end of the holiday, particularly on routes linking Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City to other regions and tourist spots. Expressway operators will maintain close coordination with relevant authorities to monitor traffic conditions, respond to any incidents, and ensure the safe and uninterrupted flow of traffic throughout the holiday.

The Vietnam Road Administration has urged motorists to conduct pre-trip vehicle checks, ensure adequate funds are available in their electronic toll accounts, monitor the information displayed on variable message signs (VMS), adhere to posted speed limits, and maintain a safe distance from other vehicles on expressways.
