One criminal arrested after gunfight with police in Patna; 62 rounds fired

Early Sunday morning, early on August 30, 2026, a gunfight erupted between police and a group of criminals along the Son River near Patna. The confrontation took place during a law enforcement operation aimed at apprehending individuals who extorted boatmen for protection money, according to the police.

During the intense exchange of gunfire, one criminal sustained a gunshot wound to his leg, while Sub-Inspector Raju Kumar Singh was also injured after a bullet struck his arm. Station House Officer Amit Kumar of Bihita police station suffered a head injury. A total of 62 rounds were exchanged throughout the confrontation, with approximately 40 rounds fired by the criminals and about 22 rounds by the police, as reported by Patna Senior Superintendent of Police Kartikey Kumar Sharma.

The injured criminal, identified as Aneesh Kumar, was taken to Patna Medical College and Hospital for treatment. He had a prior criminal history and was apprehended following the shootout. Piyush Kumar, another associate, was arrested from the boat, and a significant amount of illegal weapons, including AK-47s, pistols, rifles, and cartridges, were recovered during the police operation.
