Number of uncontactable Malaysians remains at 36 in China, 55 in Nepal - Foreign Ministry

PUTRAJAYA: Malaysia's Foreign Ministry has confirmed that the number of Malaysians reported uncontactable remains unchanged at 36 in China and 55 in Nepal, despite initial reports of three Malaysians being among those unaccounted for following a mudslide at Gyirong Port in Xizang, China on August 26. The ministry clarified that the three Malaysians are already included in the existing figures for uncontactable individuals in China, and do not represent new cases.

Both Malaysian embassies in Beijing and Kathmandu are collaborating with local authorities to confirm the safety and location of the remaining Malaysians who are uncontactable. The embassy in Kathmandu has been providing consular assistance to the families of affected Malaysians and has been coordinating with Nepalese authorities to facilitate communication and access to relevant facilities.

The Malaysian embassies in both countries are actively engaged in efforts to gather more information and ensure the safety of the unaccounted Malaysians, while urging the public to refrain from sharing unverified information. Malaysians with information or family members of the uncontactable individuals are encouraged to contact the Foreign Ministry Operations Room in Putrajaya for further assistance.
