Nigerian Army raises alarm over attempted cyber breach of X account

The Nigerian Army has raised an alarm over a recent attempted cyber breach targeting its official X account, according to a statement released on Saturday in Abuja. Acting Director, Army Public Relations, Colonel Appolonia Anele, confirmed the incident and disclosed that it had been thwarted before any unauthorized access could occur.

The suspected breach was reported around 5 pm, with the Army characterizing the situation as a cybersecurity incident. Immediate technical and protective measures were enacted to secure the account and thwart any further attempts at compromise. In a bid to maintain information integrity and safeguard operational security, Anele advised the public and media organisations to disregard any suspicious or unverified content posted through the affected account, emphasizing that such material should not be construed as the official stance of the Nigerian Army.

The Army spokesperson stressed that stakeholders should rely on the military's other verified communication channels for official updates until the issue is fully resolved. She expressed gratitude for the public's vigilance and cooperation, promising that further information would be disseminated as the situation unfolds.
