Nepal flood: How 97-year-old grandmother survived after being rescued in digger bucket

In the aftermath of Nepal's devastating floods, 97-year-old Gunmaya Bohra's survival story captured the world's attention. Her image, sitting in the bucket of a mechanical digger, caked in mud, became one of the defining moments of the tragedy. The footage spread rapidly across social media, showcasing her silent rescue and recovery in Kathmandu's Bir Hospital.

Bohra was eventually located four days after the disaster, having been stuck in the mud for up to eight hours. Her grandson, Rasik Bohra, confirmed that she displayed signs of survival when she shook her head, prompting rescuers to free her from the debris and carry her to safety. Despite her frail condition, Bohra is reported to be in good health, with no significant injuries, and the government has pledged to cover her hospital expenses.

However, the search for missing family members continues, with Mr. Bohra estimating that more than 50 people from the affected area might remain unaccounted for.
