Murkomen warns politicians against meddling in IEBC affairs

Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has issued a stern warning to politicians against meddling in the affairs of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC). Speaking on Sunday at a church service in Kapseret, Uasin Gishu County, Murkomen urged politicians to allow the electoral commission to perform its duties independently.

Murkomen expressed his concern that some politicians wish to act as candidates, IEBC contractors, and election referees simultaneously. He emphasized that such conduct is unacceptable and urged politicians to focus on their designated roles. The IEBC will manage the 2027 General Election, including voter registration and candidate nominations.

Murkomen also called for peaceful political meetings and encouraged politicians to refrain from violence, assuring President William Ruto that the government would take action against any disruptive groups. Additionally, Murkomen criticized politicians who rely on slogans instead of presenting clear policies, programs, and manifestos, challenging opposition leaders to provide Kenyans with tangible alternatives ahead of the election.

He contrasted the current opposition with previous opposition leaders who presented serious policies, while describing the opposition as "clueless" due to their lack of ideas and clear programs.
