Family returns from weddings to find home destroyed by fire

KOTA BARU: A family who had recently returned from attending two weddings found their home in ruins due to a fire today. The wooden dwelling belonged to a woman named Mak Nik, in her seventies, who lived alone. Neighbour Che Ibrahim Che Ahmad, 63, recounted that the daughter of Mak Nik had visited the house shortly after Asar prayers to retrieve her for her friend's wedding ceremonies.

As Ibrahim was taking a short rest when he heard cries from the children. He rushed outside to see flames engulfing Mak Nik's house and promptly alerted his wife and grandchildren to evacuate. The fire rapidly spread due to the wooden structure of the house. Ibrahim's son-in-law, Ahmad Nukman Hanafi, managed to escape with his Proton Myvi and two other family vehicles – a Perodua Viva and Toyota Alphard.

The Darulnaim Fire and Rescue Station arrived at the scene at 5.12pm and spent over an hour battling the flames, which took nearly 30 minutes to contain. The origin of the fire and the extent of the damages are currently under investigation.
