How a Christian built Juma’at Mosque in Plateau

Peter Ibrahim Gyendyeng, a Christian resident of Plateau State, has constructed a Juma'at Mosque in the Gana Ropp community of Barkin Ladi Local Government Area. This act of kindness has brought immense joy to the local Muslim community, who see it as a significant step towards fostering a sense of belonging. The mosque's construction comes amidst ongoing violence in parts of Plateau, where tensions between Christians and Muslims have escalated.

Speaking at the mosque's inauguration, Gyendyeng, who previously served as a member of the House of Representatives for the Barkin Ladi/Bassa Constituency, clarified that he built the worship center to symbolize unity among residents. He emphasized that any financial assistance given to the Muslim community would be expended promptly, stating that tangible actions speak louder than mere words when attempting to garner goodwill.

Gyendyeng highlighted that while it's challenging to win over people's hearts, providing them with a place where they can pray for peace and national development is a meaningful contribution. The mosque's Chief Imam, Sheikh Ladan Gana Ropp, expressed his delight at the project, noting that the community felt a newfound sense of home due to Gyendyeng's initiative.

He highlighted that this was the first project of its kind in the area, underscoring the rarity and significance of such an act. During the mosque's commissioning ceremony, the community came together in prayer, extending their appreciation to Gyendyeng, the state government, and the nation at large. The attendees, including representatives from both Christian and Muslim communities, emphasized the importance of embracing peace, unity, and tolerance for the betterment of society.
