Former TCU safety Jacob Fields turns himself in on assault charge related to his removal from team

Former TCU safety Jacob Fields surrendered to Tarrant County officials on Sunday, facing an assault charge arising from a locker room altercation with a teammate that resulted in his dismissal from the team. According to online records, Fields was charged with aggravated assault causing serious bodily injury. The incident reportedly occurred on August 13th when Fields allegedly struck wide receiver Dozie Ezukanma.

TCU reported the matter to campus police the following day. Fields was subsequently removed from the team on August 18th, following a violation of team rules. His agent, Philip "Red" Miller of PM3 Sports, confirmed the player's voluntary surrender on Sunday and indicated that Fields has legal representation, allowing the legal process to proceed.

Fields' teammate Ezukanma, a junior receiver, recounted the incident in a deleted Instagram video, claiming that Fields delivered a sucker punch from behind, causing him to lose consciousness upon hitting the ground. The Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported that Ezukanma's statement corroborated this account. TCU head coach Sonny Dykes acknowledged the unexpected nature of the incident during a post-game press conference, stating that while such occurrences are sometimes inevitable, the team must navigate the situation.
