Ahead of National Day, Anwar urges Malaysians to protect the nation and stay united

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 30 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has called upon the Malaysian people to protect the nation and maintain unity as the cornerstone of Malaysia's strength. He emphasized that independence means having the freedom to shape one's destiny and having faith in the resilience of a dignified nation. "Uphold unity among Malaysians of various races as the pillar of our strength, and infuse our independence with courage, confidence and a truly free spirit," he stated in a post on X. He further highlighted that the achievements of today were made possible through the sacrifices of previous generations, who endured hardships to build the country.

"Everything we have achieved today came through the sweat, blood and tears of previous generations. Therefore, safeguard this country to the best of your ability," he urged. In a video message, Anwar also highlighted the diverse communities that comprise Malaysia, namely the Malay, Chinese, Indian, Iban, Kadazan, Murut, Bidayuh, and Orang Ulu people, as the nation's strength.

He stressed that Malaysia's interests should always take precedence over ethnic and regional sentiments, and the country should be known for ensuring justice for all its citizens, including marginalized groups. "Malaysia must be known for guaranteeing justice for all its people, including those who are marginalised and sidelined," he asserted.

Anwar further encouraged Malaysians to continue working together as a united team, preserving unity, strengthening their spirit, and defending the country with all their might. "This country gained independence through the collective strength of all Malaysians. Merdeka!" he declared. Malaysia will observe its 69th National Day tomorrow, with the theme "Malaysia Madani: Kesejahteraan Dinikmati".
