Ahead of National Day, Anwar urges Malaysians to protect the nation and stay united

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 30 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has called upon Malaysians to protect their nation and maintain unity as the cornerstone of Malaysia's strength. In a post on X, Anwar emphasized that independence signifies the freedom to chart one's own path and having faith in the strength of a dignified people and a sovereign country.

He urged the populace to uphold unity among Malaysians of different races as the backbone of their power, and infuse their independence with courage, confidence, and a genuinely free spirit. Anwar reiterated that all the achievements attained today were the result of the toil, blood, and tears of previous generations. Thus, he implored the people to safeguard the country to the best of their abilities.

In a supplementary video message, Anwar highlighted that the Malay, Chinese, Indian, Iban, Kadazan, Murut, Bidayuh, and Orang Ulu communities epitomize the strength of Malaysians. He stressed that Malaysia's interests must take precedence over ethnic and regional sentiments, and the nation should be recognized as one that ensures justice for all its people, including those who are marginalized and overlooked.

Anwar also encouraged the people to continue working as one cohesive unit, preserve unity, amplify their spirit, and defend the country with all their might. He concluded by asserting that the country gained its independence through the collective strength of all Malaysians. Malaysia will commemorate its 69th National Day tomorrow under the theme "Malaysia Madani: Kesejahteraan Dinikmati."
