Umno allows state leaders to negotiate cooperation with any party for next election

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 29 — The Islamic Party of Malaysia (Umno) has decided to empower its state leaders to engage in talks and negotiations with any political party interested in collaborating during the upcoming election. This decision was one of the key outcomes of the party’s Supreme Council meeting that took place at Menara Dato’ Onn in Kuala Lumpur.

Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki, Umno’s secretary-general, addressed the decision at a press conference, stating that all negotiations must be conducted with genuine sincerity and trust, rather than through threats.

The Supreme Council meeting, chaired by Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, also extended an official invitation to leaders of the Pan-Malaysian Islamic Party (PAS) to participate in the 2026 Umno General Assembly. This assembly is set to take place from September 9 to 12. In addition to this, three events are planned for September 8: the 2026 Malay Education Convention, the Malaysian Islamic Scholars Convention, and Laman Wanita Kreatif.

Furthermore, Umno reaffirms its commitment to the rule of law, emphasizing that no individual should be deemed guilty until they have been charged, tried, and convicted by a court of law. Asyraf Wajdi stressed that Umno consistently maintains that it will not defend any wrongdoing, misconduct, or deviation by its members or leaders, who must face justice through the proper legal procedures.
