Woman, 77, dies in fire at three-story building in On Nut

Bangkok experienced a tragic incident on 29 August 2026, when a fire swept through a three-story commercial building near Soi On Nut 27 in Bangkok’s Suan Luang district, claiming the life of a 77-year-old woman. Police were alerted to the fire at 01:00 on the morning of the incident, prompting a swift response from officers of the Phra Khanong Police Station.

In an effort to combat the flames, firefighters from both Phra Khanong and Bang Na fire stations mobilized, deploying more than ten fire engines, an aerial ladder truck, and rescue workers from the Poh Teck Tung Foundation. The blaze ignited intensely on the building's first floor, rapidly spreading to the second and third floors. Three residents found themselves trapped inside the inferno.

Firefighters battled the flames with water for approximately 30 minutes before successfully bringing the blaze under control. During the firefighting efforts, two residents, a man and a woman, were injured, suffering from smoke inhalation. They were promptly transported to a nearby hospital for medical treatment. The third resident, named Ms Wanida and aged 77, was found deceased on the second floor of the building.

Forensic officers and a forensic doctor conducted an examination of her body at the scene as part of the ongoing investigation.

A witness disclosed to authorities that they had heard what sounded like an electrical short circuit prior to the fire's ignition. Upon venturing outside to investigate, the witness observed an electric motorcycle parked on the first floor engulfed in flames. Attempting to subdue the flames, the witness resorted to using water, but the fire swiftly propagated throughout the commercial building.

Police are currently questioning the two injured residents and collaborating with forensic officers to meticulously examine the scene and ascertain the cause of the fire. The incident, which resulted in the loss of a life, has been reported extensively by Khaosod English.
