Spartans use fast start to defeat Falcons for second win of season

On Friday night at Ricaurte Stadium, Conneaut's Spartans delivered a commanding 50-6 victory over Jefferson, marking their second win of the season. The game took place on the newly installed artificial surface in Conneaut. The Spartans opened the scoring with a dominant first play: junior Deondre Weatherspoon fielded the kickoff, racing down the sideline for a 75-yard touchdown.

Jacob Thompson’s extra point extended Conneaut's lead to 7-0 with 11 minutes left in the first quarter. The Spartans maintained their momentum, with Wyant Dobran connecting with wide receiver Alden Goudge for a 73-yard touchdown, pushing the score to 14-0. Thompson, a junior making his first varsity home start, kicked the extra point.

The Spartans continued their quick start, with Dobran connecting with Davonte Harris for a 45-yard touchdown, making it 20-0. Jefferson fumbled the kickoff, and Conneaut capitalized, rushing for a 4-yard touchdown, extending their lead to 27-0. Conneaut added to their lead with a 2-yard rushing touchdown by sophomore Steven Kessler, making it 34-0 with just over a minute left in the first quarter.

Freshman quarterback Blake French connected with senior Devin Fogle for a 56-yard touchdown with 2:15 remaining in the third quarter, making it 42-0. Jefferson scored to make the final score 42-6, thanks to a 12-yard strike from junior quarterback Mason Kalil to Brandon Carr. The only points scored by the Falcons came on a 12-yard touchdown pass from junior quarterback Mason Kalil to Brandon Carr.

Both teams are scheduled to play again next Friday, with the Spartans heading to Edgewood and the Falcons hosting Lakeview.
