Giddings, Rowland have big games as Mustangs down Pirates

Senior Luke Giddings and sophomore Caden Rowland represent a powerful 1-2 punch for the Grand Valley Mustangs on the football field. During a recent game against Southeast at Reel Family Stadium, the duo combined for an impressive 164 yards rushing and two touchdowns, contributing to the Mustangs' 28-14 victory. With this win, the Mustangs are now 2-0 in their season.

The game against Southeast, who play a single wing offense, proved to be challenging for the Mustangs' defense to prepare for. Coach Matt Rosati acknowledged that simulating such play style in practice would be nearly impossible, but the Mustangs managed to tackle the issue head-on through extensive film study and walk-throughs.

Giddings and Rowland showcased their individual skills to overpower Southeast's offensive strategy. Giddings made several crucial tackles and provided vital contributions on both sides of the ball, while Rowland added 59 yards on 15 attempts and scored one touchdown. Both players excel at quickly hitting their targets, an attribute that Rosati emphasized as being essential in overpowering Southeast's defense.

Rowland's versatility in position also played a key role in the Mustangs' success. After scoring a touchdown with 9:39 left in the third quarter, Rowland's performance was instrumental in securing the lead. The Mustangs' defense also made significant contributions, with tackles by Giddings and junior Jeremiah Corll playing a major role in stifling Southeast's offense.

Southeast managed to score two touchdowns, one by Alaunte Massrock in the third quarter and another by Bruce Nelson with seven minutes left in the game. Despite these efforts, GV's defense remained resilient and managed to keep Southeast off balance. The Mustangs' victory not only solidifies their winning start to the season but also highlights the talent and teamwork displayed by Giddings, Rowland, and their teammates. GV will face Fairport Harbor next Friday in a non-league contest.
