Sibaya Community Trust upgrades Durban accommodation for cancer patients

The Sibaya Community Trust recently handed over a newly upgraded six-bed accommodation facility in Durban to CANSA KZN. This development will provide cancer patients who travel to the city for specialized treatment with a safe and dignified place to stay while receiving care. Sibaya Community Trust Founder and Chairman, Vivian Reddy, emphasized that the project was about more than just infrastructure; it was about recognizing the human impact of cancer and providing compassionate support to those affected.

Reddy highlighted the challenges faced by patients who must travel long distances to receive treatment, often worrying about where they will sleep and how they will afford to stay during their prolonged hospital stays. The upgraded facility was a testament to the Trust's philosophy of investing in lasting social infrastructure, which Reddy believes creates a more sustainable and lasting benefit for the community.

In addition to the accommodation facility, Sibaya Community Trust has been supporting numerous non-profit and community-based organizations across various sectors, including healthcare, education, and poverty alleviation. The Trust's humanitarian and social upliftment program has touched over 200 beneficiaries and invested nearly R300 million in these initiatives.

Deputy Minister Mmapaseka Steve Letsike praised the initiative, emphasizing the importance of such facilities in providing dignity and care to vulnerable communities. CANSA KZN's National Manager, Lisa Strydom, expressed gratitude for the upgraded accommodation, stating that it was much needed for patients traveling from distant areas.

Strydom also highlighted the range of services provided by CANSA, including accommodation and essential support for patients undergoing treatment.
