‘Papa, save me’: Pregnant woman, her newborn die in MP hospital, probe underway

Kalpana Mishra, a 25-year-old pregnant woman, died along with her newborn at a government hospital in Madhya Pradesh's Rewa district. As she gave birth to her first child, the young mother reportedly pleaded with her family to take her home, saying, "Please save me, my life is in danger." She was admitted to Sanjay Gandhi Memorial Hospital on August 25 and underwent a C-section on August 26 at around 8:30 pm.

According to her relatives, her condition worsened after the birth, and she passed away while receiving treatment on Thursday. Her newborn also did not survive.

In the hospital's statement, Superintendent Dr Rahul Mishra confirmed that Kalpana had not received the recommended number of antenatal check-ups. While consulting her records, the hospital found that she had only been examined twice, both at a private hospital, instead of the required eight examinations. The increased blood pressure and heart rate of Kalpana led to her losing consciousness. However, hospital officials deny any negligence on their part, stating that the treatment adhered to medical protocols.

The family claims that Kalpana had repeatedly asked doctors to monitor her condition and keep her under closer observation, but their pleas went unheeded. Her father, Ramsharan Mishra, said, "I have asked doctors to keep a close check on her condition, but they didn't. She didn't receive adequate care. She told me, 'Papa, save me.

These people will kill me'." The family has demanded the police register an FIR against those responsible and called for the suspension of the doctor and staff involved. A high-level inquiry committee has been constituted to investigate the incident, and two nursing officers have been suspended. The body has been handed over to the family following the post-mortem.
