‘Papa, save me’: Pregnant woman, her newborn die in MP hospital, probe underway

Pregnant Kalpana Mishra, 25, died and her newborn also passed away at a government hospital in Madhya Pradesh’s Rewa after pleading with her family to take her home. In a video recorded inside the hospital, she is heard saying, “If this kind of treatment continues, these people will kill me, my life is in danger.” She had not undergone enough antenatal check-ups, and her blood pressure and heart rate spiked.

Hospital staff tried to stop her from leaving, and she later lost consciousness. The newborn also did not survive. Kalpana’s father, Ramsharan Mishra, alleges that doctors failed to provide adequate care, and demands an FIR against the responsible parties. Hospital Superintendent Dr Rahul Mishra stated that the deaths are unfortunate and that the family made a serious mistake by not following the recommended antenatal check-ups.

A high-level inquiry committee has been constituted, and two nursing officers have been suspended. The hospital denies negligence, and says action will be taken based on the inquiry findings. The bodies were handed over to the family after a post-mortem.
