Russian Strike on Ammunition Depot Near Kyiv Kills Dozens

At least 37 people lost their lives after a Russian drone strike on an ammunition depot near Kyiv, marking one of the deadliest attacks in the country this year. This second attack on an arms depot near the Ukrainian capital occurred within less than two months. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy condemned the situation, stating that it was a result of terrible negligence on the part of those responsible for storing explosives near residential areas.

This incident echoed a similar attack last month that killed ten people in Vyshneve. The Russian-Ukrainian conflict has seen a surge in long-range strikes, increasingly targeting civilian infrastructure, leading to more civilian casualties. The attack on the arms depot in Bucha district sparked fires and explosions, forcing over 370 people to evacuate the area, with dozens injured.

Among the fatalities was Taras Didych, head of the Dmytrivka community, who rushed to the scene to rescue people. Zelenskyy opened criminal proceedings on charges of official negligence, emphasizing that ammunition should not be stored near homes or residential areas. Kyiv has been under nearly constant drone attacks for days, with Russia also striking nine other regions overnight.

Zelenskyy emphasized that Ukraine cannot defend against such attacks alone and called for international support. This is more than four and a half years since Russia launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
